Needham is an attractive bedroom community that is made highly desirable for those working in Boston or along Rt 128 due to its strong public school system, many area amenities, and convenient access to public transit and major highways. The Needham Public Schools consistently have some of the highest scores on the MCAS, the state-wide test given every year to grades 3-9. There are four train stations in town that take commuters directly to Boston’s South Station.

Downtown Needham is a typical New England center with a town common, train station, churches, and a central business district with shops and restaurants. The town is working to further revitalize its downtown and possibly establish a community-run organic farm and education center.

Residents enjoy participating in a wide range of community activities such as Arts in the Park, the local community theatre, and the annual tree lighting and holiday stroll. Needham residents have a wealth of cultural and recreational activities available. The town has preserved many open spaces for walking, hiking, and mountain biking and his also home to the Needham Charles River YMCA and the Needham Tennis Club. Its town recreation department offers lacrosse, hockey, Little League, ballet, basketball, skiing, tennis, swimming, summer volleyball, skiing/snowboarding, ice skating golf, senior yoga, and senior walking. There are also lovely walks along the Charles River.
