Tour Communities: Sudbury

Sudbury is known for its excellent public schools, rural character, civic minded citizenry, and beautiful historic homes. This picturesque community offers a combination of scenic country roads and open spaces yet easy access to in-town shopping. Sudbury is also home to the historic Longfellow’s Wayside Inn and its nearby sites: the Red Schoolhouse, the Martha-Mary Chapel, and the Gristmill.

Located halfway between Boston and Worcester, Sudbury has easy access to Routes 128, 495, 20, and the Mass Pike (I-90). Stone walls and old barns still mark the Sudbury landscape, making it feel far from city life. Despite rapid increases in population, the town has done much to protect open space, including more than 100 acres of conservation land and recreational sites for swimming, ice skating, and skiing.

The town has an active recreation department offering tennis lessons, riding trails, baseball, softball, lacrosse, field hockey, ice skating, football, hockey, soccer, and basketball. There are many community organizations in town, including a newcomer’s club, garden club, professional women’s club, and local theatre group. The Atkinson Town Pool is a great place to cool off and get together with friends over the summer.

Sudbury has numerous houses of worship, including Baptist, Catholic, Congregational, Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, non-denominational, and Unitarian churches as well as two Reform temples.
